Beautiful, But Deadly

Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

Matthew 26:41

Last night, I had a dream that stayed with me this the morning. In the dream, I was driving in my vehicle when I came across a scene where a truck had crashed. But this wasn’t any ordinary accident—the truck had been carrying snakes. Now, these snakes were scattered all over the street. Strangely, some of them were absolutely beautiful. Their colors were vibrant so much so that even though I don’t like snakes at all, I couldn’t help but notice how beautiful they were.

As I woke up and reflected on the dream, I felt the Lord laid something strongly on my heart: He sends us warnings. Just like in the dream, the presence of snakes symbolized danger, deception, and spiritual threats that might be in our lives. And yet, not all of them looked threatening. Some of them were beautiful. Isn’t that just like the enemy? To take what is harmful and dress it up in something that looks appealing?

This dream reminded me that just because something—or someone—looks good doesn’t mean it’s good for you. The enemy is slick! He often presents temptation, distraction, and deception in ways that look desirable. This is why we must have discernment (knowing the difference between good and evil). The Lord wants His children to walk wisely, not blindly. He gives us spiritual senses to help us detect what lies beneath the surface. But we must pray and ask Him to keep our discernment sharp.

More importantly, when the Lord shows us something—whether it’s about a person, a relationship, a job, or a path we’re considering—we must accept it. Ignoring His revelation doesn’t make it go away. If God is revealing a snake, no matter how colorful it looks, we must not try to make it a pet. We must believe what He shows us, even if it challenges our emotions or expectations. He’s not trying to scare us—He’s trying to protect us.

So today, I encourage you: watch and pray. Ask the Lord to heighten your discernment (spiritual awareness). Don’t be deceived by appearance; but be led by The Truth, which is Jesus! Remember, you don’t have to fear what’s hidden when you’re walking in the light. God is faithful to reveal what you need to see—just be willing to look, listen, and trust Him when He does.
